That rice needed a way to get to market. Enter the MKT Railroad—the Missouri- Kansas-Texas Railroad, but who’s got time for all that? As we move into the mid-1900s, Katy's fortunes took a dynamic turn with the discovery of natural gas fields in 1934. Humble Oil (now Exxon) opened the Katy Gas Plant in 1943. This didn't just drive economic growth; it fostered a sense of community and progress. While the land that now comprises Grange wasn’t part of the plant, it was intricately linked through miles of piping that once channeled gas to the facility. This historical connection adds another layer to Grange’s rich narrative, blending industrial heritage with modern community life.
